My Pink Hair Journey

Pink MohawkOkay…I’ve wanted to dye my hair pink for about a year and a half now. I don’t know why. I just wanted to. I have always, always, always been adventurous with my hair and am amazed that I still have any. My biggest hesitation for not dying my hair some bold color is my husband’s job. Yes, I know. His work shouldn’t dictate what I do but that’s not reality. Maybe I’ll do a video about that one day. 😉 In any case, I finally decided to do it! Well – spoiler alert – it was an EPIC FAIL.

I’m no newbie to coloring my own hair. I’ve done everything from box dyes to actual two and three part colors. I’m not a professional by any means. I just YouTube a lot. I started with a blondish color in my hair but I new that I needed to get it as close to white as possible so that I didn’t get orange hair. Yellow and pink make orange ya know. I thought I had it and apparently I didn’t. I started by bleaching my hair again. Remember, my hair was already blonde. The color was nice and light but I knew it wasn’t light enough. I still had some yellowness but I was impatient and really didn’t want my hair to fall out.

This is the bleach to get the pink out. I actually really, really, really like this purple. If only I could find a dye this exact color.

The hair came out orange – and straight. Uggghhh!!! My naturally kinky hair was straightening out! From past experience I knew that I was on a thin line here. Thankfully, the kinks came back but the color was just a no go. I know I didn’t do it right. That’s okay. I’ll save it for a PROFESSIONAL. To get the pinkish-orange color out I bleached it again. Yes. I did. And I absolutely love the color. I did add a toner to it that’s almost like a super light brown. I love it. I might go back in with some super pale pinks at almost a rose color. Super pale. We shall see. For now, I’m letting my hair relax a bit and get in better shape.

I realize now that it's hard to tell how blonde my hair actually is but at least it isn't that horrible highlighter color. I love this super light blonde.

  1. i am over here on the floor ROLLING….. girl you better stop playing around with your hair, I laughed so hard from the first sentence on. LOL

  2. I have dark brown hair and am going grey already (I’m 29), I’ve been wanting to dye my hair a crazy colour for a while – I’ve done red, black, black with a blue tinge, I even did the bottom layer pink while at university but since I graduated in 2007, work, being a role model (my husband was the church youth worker for about 3 years) and then being a foster carer has always put me off dying it. I’m now self employed, a full time Mum and (Still) a foster carer. Maybe now is the time to get on and do it.

    1. First of all…grey is in right now. I actually wanted to dye my hair grey but was afraid that going that light would make all of my hair fall out…lol. I follow a blogger that has beautiful grey hair – http://www.gorgeousingrey.com.
If you’re ready to dye it…go for it!! I love that we can do what we want with our hair. I love the freedom that being a creative gives me. 😉

      1. For ages I would cover up my greys – I got my first at like 23 ish, then I got a bit fed up of nearly dying the bathroom as well as my head! Having a thin about it my Mum’s Aunt went completely grey by the time she was 30, on the other hand my Grandmother had jet black hair until she had a stroke about 8 years ago and then she started going grey – now she rocks a sort of Salt’n’Pepper look

I'd love to hear from you!
